Dermal Fillers Q & A
What are dermal fillers?
The aging process causes your face to lose subcutaneous fat, stretch out, and lose volume; then, your facial muscles are closer to your skin’s surface. The result is often the appearance of smile lines and crow’s feet.
Dermal fillers are naturally derived gel-like substances injected beneath your skin that offer a cost-effective, minimally invasive way to help restore your lost volume, diminish facial lines, enhance your facial contours, and soften creases.
Dr. Prokopets offers dermal fillers that help improve the appearance of your lips, nasolabial folds, and cheeks.
What is the consultation like to receive dermal fillers?
As with any medical procedure, when you see Dr. Prokopets for a face augmentation, chin augmentation, or facial rejuvenation, she begins your treatment with a consultation.
At this first visit, Dr. Prokopets evaluates your skin and the appearance of your face. She then determines which dermal filler is best for the issues you want to correct.
What happens when I get dermal fillers?
Some patients are candidates for same day filler treatment. If you are not a candidate, you will return for a second appointment for the dermal filler injection. At this appointment, Dr. Prokopets maps the appropriate injection sites and cleans the areas with an antibacterial agent. Next, she applies a local anesthetic and begins your injections.
The injection process includes:
- Inserting the dermal filler
- Massaging the injection sites
- Evaluating the results
- Adding additional filler as needed
The entire process lasts from 15 minutes to one hour, depending on the number of areas treated. Once you and Dr. Prokopets are satisfied with the results, she cleans the markings off your face.
Ice packs reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort. Tenderness often lasts one to two days, and pain medication usually isn’t required. Results appear immediately.
How long do dermal fillers last?
For the most part, the deeper the injection and denser the product, the longer your dermal fillers last. To maintain results for as long as possible, keep your skin healthy and see Dr. Prokopets for follow-up treatments.
